A clean vase is the foundation for keeping flowers fresh

Building the right foundation to store your flowers is the key to keeping them fresh for longer. A quick rinse and wash with kitchen soap or with part vinegar and part water should do wonders in disinfecting the vase.

Flower food to keep them full and happy for longer

Follow the instructions on the flower food packet that came with your bouquets. Flower food contains vital nutrients that keeps flowers fresher for longer and also helps regulate the pH of water, helping the flowers absorb them. It is important to follow the water-to-flower-food proportion as instructed by the packet.

Trim the stems for that freshness

Secateurs is the way to go in cutting those stems to ensure your flowers stay fresh. A floppy knife or scissors will crush the stems, making it difficult for the flowers to absorb water and nutrients.

Shed those leaves for the best

Leaves submerged in water will rot over time, contaminating the water and making it a hostile environment for the flowers to stay fresh. Before placing the flowers in the vase, make sure there are no leaves touching or submerging in the water.

Remove dying petals

As much as we love to keep all those flowery goodness, removing the dried or dying petals gives an all new fresh look and elegance to your flowers. These outer petals are often called guard petals, which helps keep the inner petals safe as we deliver the flowers to you. However, it is advised to remove them so that the dryness doesn’t get transferred to other petals, thus keeping your flowers fresher for longer.

Give them fresh water

Flowers thrive in fresh water. Keep an eye on the health of the water, especially if your vase is not transparent. Changing the water every 2 days with flower food, spraying the petals with water, and re-trimming the stems would make a huge difference in lengthening the life and freshness of your flowers.

Keep away from direct sunlight and heat

The direct UV rays from sunlight and exposure to heat sources will dry and fade the flowers quickly. To ensure your flowers stay fresher for longer, make sure you keep them in a cool and dry place until we invent sunblock for flowers (wink wink).
